How long have you been a member?
I have been a member since 1992.
What attracted you to becoming a member?
I became a member to do good work for good causes. I liked the mandate that any money we raise from the public must be spent on Lions Projects and the community. Did you know that Helen Keller asked the Lions to be Knights of the Blind and they took the challenge?
What tips or advice do you have for new members?
I suggest that a new member be as active as they can be, ask questions, AND have some fun! —there are new friends to be made! If attending meetings is not possible, just volunteer for activities.
What do you like most about being a member?
I like our service projects such as Children’s and Adult Vision Screening, Diabetes Awareness, Eye Glass Recycling, and have you seen our beautiful and wonderful Lions Camp in Rosholt? We also have a “pony express“ system of transporting corneal eye tissue to and from the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin…we are the only state that uses Lion volunteers rather than paid drivers. I could go on and on about the good things we do. We also have to fundraise to “make money to give money away” but it is the service projects that really make me feel good.
