Most clean and dry polyethylene (PE), labeled as #2 or #4, plastics are recyclable. However, these materials are not normally accepted in curbside programs because they can get caught in the machines that sort other recyclables and are generally too dirty after their trip in the back of the recycling truck to be recycled.
The Madison Monona Lioness Lions Club, in partnership with the Monona Sustainability Committee, is collecting these plastics for recycling. Our plastic waste will be turned into materials to make decks and benches and our club will receive a community bench when we collect 1,000 pounds of plastic.
Note: Plastics donated must be clean, dry and free of food residue.
